Heartfelt thanks from the Shepherdstown Public Library

By Staff | Aug 15, 2014

The staff of the Shepherdstown Library would like to thank the following individuals who helped to make our “Fizz, Boom, Read!” Summer Reading Program a success: Phyllis Barnes, Eric Bauer, Sandy D’Onofrio, Stephanie Dorsey, Heidi and Robby Glenn, Agnes ‘Vi’ Jones, Isaac and Lily Kessler, Stan and Wendy Mopsik, Suzie Patrick, Gloria Thatcher, Michele Thomann, and Ruth Whitlock. Thanks for donating your time to help with our Summer Program!

And thanks very much to these businesses and organizations that so generously provided prize coupons or gift certificates to each of the children who completed a reading log: Blue Moon Caf, Four Seasons Books, German Street Coffee and Candlery, Grapes & Grains Gourmet, The Local Source, The Lost Dog, O’Hurley’s, On the Wings of Dreams, Shepherd University’s Wellness Center, Shepherdstown Pedal & Paddle, the Shepherdstown Sweet Shop Bakery, Up On the Hill, and the Village Florist & Gifts.

Without the following we would not have been able to present and publicize the programs we scheduled: the Corporation of Shepherdstown’s Police Department and Town Council, the NASA Educator Resource Center of Fairmont, the Martinsburg Library’s Children’s Department, the Shepherdstown Chronicle, the Shepherdstown Community Club, Shepherdstown Elementary School, the Shepherdstown Train Station, and the WV Observer.

We appreciate these talented people who educated and entertained hundreds of children and adults during our free events: Beth Ireland and Jenn Moller and the mobile art workshops of their “Turning Around America” project, butterfly expert Jerry Schneider of Vermont’s Morpho Productions, Flower Lorenzo, the “Fossil Lady of Berkeley Springs,” and Becky Shore, director of Wildlife Ambassadors of Virginia. Children’s Librarian Lilly Bauer presented hands-on programs on rockets, robots, and “gross science.”

As always, very special thanks are due to FOSL, Friends of the Shepherdstown Library, for funding our Summer Program events and enabling us to offer thousands of stickers and bookmarks as reading incentives.

Sincerely,

Lilly Bauer and Anne Eden
