Appreciative of outreach

By Staff | Dec 26, 2014

On behalf of the Lewis Family (my mother Jackie Lewis, my brothers Brad and Brett Lewis and our wives and children), I would like to thank everyone who reached out to us after the sudden passing of our father, Dave Lewis.

The outpouring of support was overwhelming. We appreciate each and every card, phone call, visit or text message. Dad’s celebration on Friday Dec. 12 at the Shepherdstown Fire Department was such an incredibly heart-warming event. The turnout of over 600 caring people was amazing, humbling and completely unexpected and we consider it to be a wonderful tribute to the positive impact Dad had on so many people in our community.

There were so many friends and family in attendance that we didn’t get to speak with everyone. If we missed you, we apologize and we hope to visit with you soon.

My brothers and I have always been thankful that Dad and Mom moved to Shepherdstown in 1966 when Dad came to play football at Shepherd. We can’t imagine having grown up anywhere else. That sentiment was reinforced Friday night when it seems half the town showed up to celebrate Dad’s life. Dad definitely loved this town. Mom and my brothers and I do, too.

The ultimate tribute to Dad would be for you to continue to love this town. Volunteer your time and donate without asking for recognition, like Dad did. Try to do things to make the town better, like Dad did. Respect the history of the town, like Dad did. And raise your family with love and respect, like Dad did.

Please also consider making contributions to two local organizations close to Dad’s heart: the Shepherdstown Fire Department and Shepherdstown Public Library’s expansion fund.

Thank you all very much and have a very Merry Christmas,

Eric Lewis
