Thank you from the mayor
I was glad to see so many of you exercising your right to vote in the town election. I am appreciative of the support that I received to continue as mayor of our community. I not only congratulate the folks elected, but thank everyone that ran for office. Additionally, I thank the council members who will be ending their terms for the work they have done for all of us.
I would like to remind each of you that the opportunity to serve your community isn’t limited to those of us you have elected. There are many committees that often need volunteers. In fact, that is how I got started. I encourage you to take advantage of those opportunities.
Another way you can serve your community, is to be resolute in these challenging times. Please wear your mask, practice social distancing and good hygiene. We want our community to be healthy and our businesses and restaurants to remain open. It is up to each of us to encourage and not discourage following the CDC guidelines. On July 17 and 18, 716 Jefferson County residents were tested for COVID-19, and only one person tested positive. Let’s continue in our effort to keep our community safe.
In Shepherdstown we care and love our friends, neighbors and all creatures great and small. The Shepherdstown community has the reputation for assisting others that are in need of our help. Please do not let any ugliness permeate this atmosphere we cherish and call our home, the most wonderful place to live. I look forward to working with the new council as we take on the challenges of local government.
Thank you. I am honored to be your mayor.
Arthur J. Auxer III, of Shepherdstown
