A ludicrous conflict
The Shepherdstown Chronicle’s August 14, 2020 issue reported that concerned citizens have been meeting with police and town representatives regarding loud mufflers — indeed, a maddening experience that’s gotten worse.
Yet, in the same first-page article, two paragraphs before the muffler problem, is news that one of three new German Street businesses will be a tattoo parlor.
If the town doesn’t crack down on the muffle situation, then citizen outrage will justifiably mount. If the muffler culture isn’t welcome, then the tattoo parlor probably won’t last. Since tattoos and loud mufflers obviously go together, this conundrum should not even exist.
The town needs to set and stick to standards. Thoughtful, thorough planning, decisiveness and timely action are needed on Town Hall’s second floor. Sorely needed, these will, indeed, bring a new dawn.
