Yardwork a sign of climate change

By Staff | Feb 5, 2021

Yardwork is a measure of climate change.

Just 35 percent of Americans believe climate change affects them personally, although 72 percent of Americans acknowledge that climate change is happening. If you are part of the 35 percent and live in a city apartment and pay no attention to your electricity bills over time, well, fine.

However, if you do yardwork, you may have noticed that, in Jefferson County, you used to finish lawn mowing in mid-to-late August. You also used to trim evergreen hedges once per year. In 2020, however, we mowed the lawn into November and needed to trim evergreen hedges twice.
