Forethought for fledglings advised

By Staff | Feb 24, 2023

We, and our neighbors, have been witness to an amazing spring ritual in recent years.

Some of the Canada geese who became parents by the stream, Fountain Rock Spring, in Morgan’s Grove Park, walk their fledglings across Morgan Grove Road to get to Morgan’s Springs, either by walking along Falling Spring Road, through our field which abutts the Norfolk Southern Railroad track, or through the field that is currently under development nearby.

The Canada geese travel to Morgan’s Springs, where they originated years ago. Maybe they leave the park because of it having too many dogs or people in the vicinity?

This past spring, in 2022, I also witnessed Canada geese with fledglings crossing Morgan Grove Road close to the intersection with West Virginia Route 480.

Traffic turning off Route 480 is fast and dangerous, of course, to the geese.

Please be alert and aware of these geese while driving nearby, to help protect them on their journey.
