I’m writing today in support of James Gatz for mayor of Shepherdstown. Although I do not live in town limits, town politics greatly affect me as a business owner in the Corporation of Shepherdstown.

For years, I have lamented the lack of connection, concern and support from town leadership.

James Gatz is an empathetic neighbor and has proven himself as a county-wide managerial leader, during his time as Shepherdstown’s Jefferson County Development Authority representative. He supports our businesses, our restaurants and our community events, which is greatly lacking in our current administration. Mr. Gatz listens to our concerns, invites feedback and appreciates an open and honest dialogue. This is exactly the kind of relationship we need right now in our town leaders.

For years, we have lamented the lack of participation of town leadership between businesses and community organizations. We need a leader with energy, commitment and transparency. We need a leader who shows initiative.

Without proactive leadership, the Shepherstown community that we all love so dearly, will forever be altered. We can no longer be passive and compliant. We need energetic and committed leadership to create a fiscally viable and sustainable future for future generations.
