Shepherd signs 27 as it enters the PSAC

SHEPHERDSTOWN – The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference is Shepherd’s next stop. Beginning in September of 2019, the Rams will be a football-playing member of the East Division of the state-wide league that annually fields some of the better teams in the NCAA Division II ranks.

Already located in the East Division are West Chester, Kutztown, Shippensburg, Bloomsburg, East Stroudsburg, Millersville and Lock Haven. Shepherd will play all seven of those East Division teams as well as Mercyhurst, Clarion and Seton Hill from the seven-school West Division.

The Rams will not play traditional West Division powers Indiana, Slippery Rock or California in the 2019 season.

To bolster its roster for the debut PSAC season, Shepherd has announced the signing of 27 athletes to help in the transition from the Mountain East Conference to the PSAC.

Shepherd completed a 7-3 record season in 2018. All 10 games were against Mountain East Conference opponents and had losses to Notre Dame (Ohio), Fairmont and Virginia-Wise.

The announced recruiting class included eight defensive backs: Isaiah Nixon, from Portsmouth, Virginia; Christian Lesane, from Columbia, Maryland; Richard Akers, from Baltimore, Maryland; Marcquez Burns, from Woodbridge, Virginia; Joshua Hayes, from South Riding, Virginia; Devon Lynch, from Springfield, Virginia; Tavian Montgomery, from Westminster, Maryland; and Treyshawn Moore, from Summerville, South Carolina.

There were seven defensive linemen among the 27 signees: Gerald Wright, from Columbia, South Carolina; Trenton Baker, from Laurel, Maryland; Joe Parry from Westminster, Maryland; Emonte Vaught from Woodbridge, Virginia; Corey Holloway, from Norfolk, Virginia; Colin Poisker, from Glassboro, New Jersey; and Jurnee Dunbar, from Columbia, South Carolina.

The offensive linemen announced were Carter Runyon, from Oakton, Virginia; Trey Briscoe, from Linganore, Maryland; and Francisco Moret-Brunet, from Haymarket, Virginia.

Two linebackers were signed in Armani Wooden, from Suitland, Maryland, and Josh Harrison, from Perry Hall, Maryland.

Jacob Hayne, from Fairfax, Virginia, is listed as kicker/defensive back. The three running backs are Ronnie Brown, from Dundalk, Maryland; Patrick Richardson, from Potomac, Maryland; and Corey Shell, from Baltimore, Maryland.

The quarterback signees included Christian Etchison, from Westminster, Maryland; Deontez Parker, from Glen Burnie, Maryland; and Jalen Walters, from Greenbelt, Maryland.

In all, 14 players from Maryland, nine from Virginia, three from South Carolina and one from New Jersey were signed.
