DANIELS – Karen Kinnett, of Shepherdstown, won her second West Virginia Women’s Senior Amateur Golf Championship played at the The Resort at Glade Springs, on June 9-10. She won her first championship in 2017 at Alpine Lakes Resort in Terra Alta.
Kinnett had rounds of 79 and 78 for a 13-over-par 157 on the Cobb course (par 72) and posted a two-stroke victory over Karen Rainey of Daniels, at 78-81-159. Patti Maroney, of Wheeling, was third at 80-84-164. Each player enjoyed the lead multiple times over the two-day tournament, but Karen surged into the lead on the back nine on hole 14. She held onto her lead through a downpour on three of the most challenging finishing holes of any course played in her 47-year golf career.
Other players from the panhandle in the field of forty-eight include Susan Mills, Melissa Hall and Laurie Quinn all of Shepherdstown. The four women are all members of the Club at Cress Creek in Shepherdstown.
