SHEPHERDSTOWN — On Sunday, it was announced that Colorado Rockies center fielder Brenton Doyle had won his second-straight Gold Glove, as the best defensive player at his position in the National League. Doyle, who played for three seasons at Shepherd University, was in his second year in the big leagues.

The 26-year-old from Kettle Run High School in Warrenton, Va., last played at Shepherd in 2019 before signing a major league contract as a fourth round selection in the free agent draft in the summer of 2019. He reached the big leagues in April 2023.

Doyle also has received The Fielding Bible Award this season, as the best overall center fielder in his league.

“The defense on this team — winning or losing — is up there with the best in the league. We work hard at it. We’ve got a lot of guys that take a lot of pride in it,” Doyle said. “It definitely shows.”
