SU men edged by Bowie State

Darren Clark scored 29 points and Byron Westmoreland added 17 to lift eighth-ranked Bowie State to a 78-75 win over Shepherd University in final day action of the Clarion Hotel Tipoff Classic at the Butcher Center on Saturday night.

Shepherd was led by sophomore guard Brantley Osborne (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy) with 25 points on a 6-11 effort from the floor with a 3-of-4 performance from three-pointrange. He was 10-10 from the foul line.

Junior forward Chad Moore (Winchester, VA/John Handley) scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while junior forward Malik Dauda (Montreal Canada/Archbishop Carroll) had 11 points.

Shepherd had a 75-69 lead after a pair of Osborne free throws with 1:39 remaining, but the Bulldogs finished the game on a 9-0 run behind seven points from Clark to come away with the win.

Shepherd falls to 1-1, while Bowie State improves to 2-0. The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host Alderson-Broaddus at 8 p.m.
