Special to the Chronicle
The Blue-Gold football game was to be played at the Shepherd University. The Ram football team was originally scheduled to scrimmage with Shippensburg football team at 1 p.m. this past Saturday at Ram Stadium.
Due to injuries, the game became a scrimmage between the offensive and defensive units of the Ram football team.
The scrimmage took place with about 200 people in attendance. Admission was free. Though called a game, it was actually a large scrimmage, a very controlled game without a lot of the hitting normally seen in football games. The coaches set up a situations such as the Rams have the ball on the 20 yard line with 10 seconds to go. A play was called and run to see if the team could score. It was a stop and go type of game with a lot of passing and running. The kickers were involved in trying field goals from different spots on the field. The object of the scrimmage was to evaluate the new players to the team as well as to see where the team stands as it prepares for the fall season. Last season the Rams were 9 and 2 and just missed a trip to the playoffs.
After the game the Ram Gridiron Club hosted a picnic behind the field house.
