Players gain All-Region Honors

Four members of the Shepherd University baseball team have been selected to All-Region teams. Senior first baseman Nathan Minnich (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro Area Sr.), sophomore pitcher Paul Hvozdovic (Herndon, VA/Herndon), senior designated hitter Nash Hutter (Sunland, CA/Verdugo Hills/Glendale CC) and junior second baseman Chad Murphy (North Olmsted, OH/North Olmsted) have all gained All-Region accolades.

Minnich was a unanimous first team choice and named Regional Player of the Year by Daktronics and NCBWA (Player of the Year honors have yet to be announced by the ABCA/Rawlings). He recorded a .487 batting average with 74 hits in 152 at-bats. Minnich led the Rams in hits (74), runs batted in (72), runs (69), total bases (149), walks (62), home runs (21), slugging percentage (.980) on base percentage (.645) and batting average (.487). Minnich leads NCAA II in on base percentage, slugging percentage, and home runs per game (0.46) while ranking second in batting average, home runs, runs batted in, base on balls and base on balls per game in the latest rankings. He is ranked in the top four nationally in three other categories. Minnich has set numerous career and season records for the Rams this year.

Hvozdovic was a second team selection by NCBWA, ABCA/Rawlings and Daktronics. He posted a 10-4 mark and two saves with a 2.57 ERA. Hvozdovic had team-highs of 81 strikeouts in 108.2 innings. His 10 wins ties a Shepherd season record while his 17 starts set a new season mark.

Hutter earned second team honors from Daktronics and honorable mention NCBWA accolades. He recorded a .322 batting average with 57 hits in 177 at-bats. Hutter drove in 51 runs and scored 39. He was second on the team with 10 homers. He added 12 doubles and a triple.

Murphy garnered honorable mention NCBWA honors. He batted .351 with 60 hits in 171 at-bats. He drove in 40 runs and scored 43. Murphy added 14 doubles and four round-trippers.
