Shepherd women name new basketball players

Shepherd University head women’s basketball coach Melanie Ford announced today that six student-athletes have signed letters-of-intent to play for the Rams in 2012-13.

Sammy Bane (Chantilly, VA/Middleburg Academy), Hailey Brown (Annandale, VA/Annandale), Cara Mason (Monrovia, MD/Urbana), Kristina Prange (Gaithersburg, MD/Damascus), Molly Rohlfing (Wilmington, NC/Wilmington Christian Academy), and Jazmin Tolson (Frederick, MD/Frederick/Chowan) will join the Rams for the 2012-13 season.

Bane, a 5-foot-4 guard, comes to Shepherd after gaining All-State honors at Middleburg Academy. She also gained MVP, Best Hustle and Coaches Award accolades. Bane averaged 17 points, four rebounds, four steals and four assists last season. She drained 71 three-pointers and hit on 82 percent of her free throws.

Brown, a 6-foot-0 forward, was a four-year letterwinner in basketball at Annandale. Brown was an honorable mention All-District choice and played in the All-Star Suburban Classic Game. She averaged seven points, five rebounds, five assists and one block.

Mason, a 5-foot-8 guard, was a four-year letterwinner in basketball at Urbana. She was a three-time First Team All-Area and First Team All-Conference selection. Mason earned Roundball Classic MVP honors. Mason averaged 18.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, four steals and 3.3 assists.

Prange, a 6-foot-1 forward/center, was a multi-letterwinner in basketball at Damascus. She was a two-time team captain and was named to the Washington Post All-League team. Prange won Team MVP honors as a junior and earned the Coaches Award as a senior. She also gained Diamond State Classic Tournament MVP honors. Prange averaged 10 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists.

Rohlfing, a 5-foot-8 guard, was a four-year starter in basketball at Wilmington Christian Academy. She was a two-time All-Conference and All-Area choice. Rohlfing helped lead her team to a regular season conference championship as a junior and a fourth place finish as a senior. She gained All-State honors as a senior co-captain and was selected to play in the East-West All-Star Game. Rohlfing averaged 17.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, 6.1 steals and 2.7 assists as a senior.

Tolson, a 5-foot-6 guard, lettered in basketball and track at Frederick. She gained All-Frederick and All Gazette honors as she helped lead Frederick to the 2011 state championship. Tolson averaged 10 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Cadets. A transfer from Chowan University, Tolson has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
