Shepherd women ink six lacrosse players

Shepherd University head women’s lacrosse coach Meghan Keelan announced today that six student-athletes have signed letters-of-intent to play for the Rams in 2013.

Maggie Garvey (Chester, MD/Kent Island), Taylor Hicks (Baltimore, MD/Mercy), Theresa Lang (Severn, MD/Archbishop Spalding), Hunter Morris (Severna Park, MD/Severn School), Erin Phelan (Thurmont, MD/Catoctin) and Kelsey Phelan (Thurmont, MD/Catoctin) are slated to join the Rams for the 2013 season.

Garvey, a midfielder/defender, lettered four years in both lacrosse and soccer at Kent Island. Garvey served as a team captain as a senior. She was a member of the 2009 North Bayside champion team.

Hicks, an attacker, lettered in lacrosse, basketball, and indoor track at Mercy. Hicks was a four-year starter who served a team captain as a senior. She tallied 160 points in her junior and senior years. Hicks led her team in assists over that period. She was a member of the 2011 IAAM B Conference champion team.

Lang, an attacker, lettered in lacrosse and ice hockey at Archbishop Spalding. She competed for the Maryland United Lacrosse Club East team. Lang served as team captain for her ice hockey team.

Morris, an attacker, lettered in lacrosse and soccer at Severn School. She is the granddaughter of former University of Maryland head men’s lacrosse coach Clayton “Bud” Beardmore, who was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Her uncles, Jim and Steve Beardmore, played lacrosse at Maryland.

Erin Phelan, a midfielder/attacker, lettered in lacrosse and basketball at Catoctin. She was a four-time first team All-Conference choice and a three-time first team All-County selection. She was a member of the 2012 MVAL Conference champion basketball squad. Phelan tallied 53 goals and 17 assists in 13 games in 2012.

Kelsey Phelan, a midfielder/defender, lettered in lacrosse and basketball at Catoctin. She was a four-time first team All-Conference choice and a two-time first team All-County selection. She was a member of the 2012 MVAL Conference champion basketball squad. Phelan recorded 26 goals and 14 assists in 13 games in 2012. Phelan and her sister are the granddaughters of Mount St. Mary’s men’s basketball coaching legend Jim Phelan.
