By Staff | Aug 17, 2012

Shepherd University head men’s basketball coach Justin Namolik announced today that Eric Gabriel has been named assistant men’s basketball coach. Gabriel replaces Casey Weitzel, who resigned to accept a similar position with Azuza Pacific.

Gabriel comes to Shepherd after serving as an assistant at Mount Olive College for the past three seasons. He helped lead the Trojans to a 60-27 record over that period and a regular season and tournament conference championship in 2009-10.

Gabriel also served as an assistant at Methodist University.

Prior to coaching a Methodist, Gabriel spent two years as a head coach at Fort Loramie (OH) High School and also served as an assistant at Alexander (OH) High School.

Gabriel was a four-year member of the men’s basketball team at West Liberty University and served as a team captain as a senior.

Gabriel gained his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from West Liberty in 2004 and added a master’s degree in recreation and sport sciences with an emphasis in coaching education from Ohio University in 2011.
