Six Rams gain all-region honors
Six members of the Shepherd University football team have been named to the 2012 Don Hansen Football Gazette Division II All-Super Region One team. Senior cornerback Keon Robinson (Fairfax Station, VA/Lake Braddock) garnered first team honors, sophomore offensive lineman Isaiah Shelton (Temple Hills, MD/Charles H. Flowers) gained second team honors, while senior tight end John Frick (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim), senior linebacker A.J. Parrish (Madison Heights, VA/Amherst County), junior defensive end Howard Jones (Woodbridge, VA/Freedom) and junior defensive lineman Mike Franklin (Silver Spring, MD/Long Reach) earned third team honors.
Robinson helped spearhead a Shepherd defense that led NCAA II in rushing defense (52.64), while ranking eighth in tackles for loss (8.73) and eighth in scoring defense (16.64). He recorded 52 tackles on the year with 40 solo stops. Robinson had four interceptions (one touchdown), 10 pass breakups, a pair of fumble recoveries, and a blocked kick. He added 14 kickoff returns for a 20.6 average (one touchdown) and 17 punt returns for a 10.9 average (one touchdown).
Shelton helped anchor an offensive line that helped Shepherd lead the WVIAC in scoring offense.
Frick had 14 receptions for 123 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the season.
Parrish led the Rams with 60 tackles (39 solo). He had 6.5 tackles-for-loss, two sacks, three pass breakups, and a pair of forced fumbles.
Jones recorded 34 tackles (28 solo). He led the team with 15.5 tackles-for-loss and nine sacks. He also added a forced fumble.
Franklin registered 34 tackles (21 solo). He had 8.5 tackles-for-loss and three sacks. He added a blocked kick.
The first team and second team All-Region selections advance to a national ballot from which the 2012 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America team will be named later this month.
