Hosby twice a winner for Washington High
Devyn Hosby fashioned a sprint win in the 400 meters (winning time of 57.43) and was able to finish second in both the 100 meters (12.12) and the 200 meters (24.98) as she led Washington High to a second-place finish in the girls division of last weekend’s Class AAA state track and field meet held in Charleston.
Hosby also ran the anchor leg on the 4×400 relay team which won the grueling event with a time of 4:03.69. Running the first three legs on that winning team were Destiny Harrison, Christina Rogombe and Rhonda Rogombe.
In the 100-meter finals, Hosby missed winning by .02 of a second.
Washington also had a win in the field portion of the meet where Rhonda Rogombe cleared 5-foot-6-inches in the high jump.
Hurricane declared itself the state champion with a top-heavy 80 points while the Patriots settled for the runner-up spot with 56.5 points. Regional champion Jefferson finished 10th in the team standings with 22 points.
The Lady Cougars were second in the 4×200 sprint relay with Aaliyah Rice, Aisha Grant, Kenya Price and Alanna Baylor as their four runners.
Jefferson had Abby Colbert finish second in the 3200 distance race where she had a time of 10:56.75 compared to Amelia Paladino’s race-winning time of 10:25.29. Colbert was fifth in the 1600 run and was 12th in the 800 meters.
Washington’s Sara Pifer gave the Patriots six points for her third-place finish in the pole vault.
Hosby’s ability to score well in all four of the events she could compete in gave her a total of 28.5 individual points in the season-closing meet.
