Jefferson visits Sherando, Patriots host Judges

By Staff | Sep 29, 2014

Jefferson has maintained an undefeated record through its first four games, beating Spring Mills, Mountain Ridge, Hampshire and Musselman. This week, the Cougars, now 4-0, travel to Stephens City in Virginia to see Sherando, a team with a 3-1 record.

As one of the state’s few remaining undefeated Class AAA teams, Jefferson has moved near the top of the WVSSAC ratings and could be in line for its first playoff appearance in many years.

Sherando has wins over Musselman, Washington and Kettle Run. Last week against Kettle Run, the Warriors trailed, 7-3, before scoring three times in the fourth quarter to post a 24-7 win.

Meanwhile, the Cougars bounced Musselman, 47-21, once building a 34-7 lead by halftime. On the state level, Martinsburg was once again taken from the the undefeated ranks by Tuscarora of Leesburg.

The Bulldogs lost a one-point decision to Tuscarora in 2013 before then moving swiftly along to their fourth straight Class AAA state championship.

Unbeatens Capital and South Charleston face each other this week.

Washington High is now 1-3 overall and back at home tonight to play the Handley Judges from Winchester.

The Patriots opened the season with a win at Hedgesville, but now have lost three straight, dropping games against Spring Mills, Sherando and Morgantown.

Handley brings a 2-2 overall record to Washington. The Judges have yet to play a close game. Their losses were a 35-0 shutout defeat to Liberty and a 46-16 loss to Eastern View of Culpeper. Handley had a 35-0 win over Harrisonburg and a 48-6 win over Fauquier.
