Cougars moving ahead after Millbrook win
Tonight in Shenandoah Junction, Jefferson plays twice-beaten Keyser in an effort to improve its record to 6-1 overall. An important win last week on the road over homestanding Millbrook was probably enough to shove the Cougars into the Class AAA playoffs that begin in early November.
After seeing the Golden Tornado, the Cougars face four-time defending state champion Martinsburg (once-beaten) and close the regular season against winless Hedgesville and Washington, which has one win.
Keyser lost for only the second time last week and that slip was against the top-rated Class AA school in the state in Bridgeport.
Should the Cougars not only reach the playoffs for the first time in years, but also finish in the Top 8 in the final polling, they would qualify for a home game in the first round of the 16-team playoffs.
Jefferson needs a win to maintain its Top 8 roost.
