Washington wins fourth straight wrestling title
This past weekend in Buckhannon, the Washington High wrestling team won its fourth straight Class AAA Region II wrestling championship.
The Patriots amassed 198.50 points against the field of nine other teams. Musselman was the runner-up with 164 points followed in order by Buckhannon, Hampshire, Hedgesville, Jefferson, Martinsburg, Lewis County, Spring Mills and Elkins.
Washington had five weight class champions in Bradly Fournier (138), Jarod Jones (152), Jared Prazma (170), Cameron Pine (132) and Blair Schifthauer (106). All five of those weight class winners qualified for this week’s state tournament in Huntington.
There were three individual runner-up finishes in various weight classes by the Patriots. Finishing second and also qualifying for the state tournament were P.J. Wilson (182), L.J. Wilson (113) and P.J. Bowlin (220).
Also qualifying for the state tournament from Washington was Eric Dreyer.
Jefferson High had four wrestlers qualifying for the Huntington-based state meet in Sam Kosanovich, Travis Holmes, Nick Graeff and Dante McCarroll.
