Washington eighth at state wrestling tournament
Parkersburg South wrestled its way to the Class AAA state championship last weekend in Huntington. The Patriots amassed 243.50 points to outdistance runner-up Huntington, which finished with 171 points.
Washington High was eighth with 81.50 points with third-place Cabell Midland (124 points), fourth-place Parkersburg (118 points), fifth-place Ripley (113.50 points), sixth-place George Washington (97.50 points) and seventh-place Wheeling Park (94.50 points) having a higher team finish than the local Patriots.
Jefferson High did not score any points in the state tournament.
Washington’s highest individual finishes came from fourth-place Jarod Jones at 152 pounds and R.J. Wilson at 182 pounds. Finishing fifth at 132 pounds was Cameron Pine and getting sixth-place finishes were L.J. Wilson at 113 pounds, Blair Schiffhauer at 106 pounds and P.J. Bowlin at 220 pounds.
