Jefferson harriers win Buffalo Wild Wings meet
With Colin Hayes finishing seventh overall and all five of its runners placing no lower than 13th, Jefferson’s boys won the eight-team Buffalo Wild Wings cross country meet held this past weekend in Romney.
The winning Cougars had a score of 52 to outrun second-place James Wood (65). Somerset (Pa.) was third with a team score of 96, followed by Handley (118), Hampshire (135), Allegany (135), Southern of Oakland and Hedgesville.
Hayes was timed in 16:59. Finishing ninth overall was Dylan Stamper (17:12) and Nick Whitehair (17:19) was 11th, Ethan Stead (17:34) was 12th and Asher Personette (17:40) was 13th.
Jefferson was fourth in the girls division, finishing with a team score of 93 to place behind Hampshire (52), James Wood (52) and Somerset (65) in the eight-team division.
Jefferson senior Abby Colbert won the race with her time of 17:53.
The other four Jefferson runners whose finishes counted toward the team total were Morgan May (eighth), Jordan Phillips (24th), Tayah Hawley (33rd) and Madeleine Pitcher (34th).
