Cougars outlast Patriots; 6-13 overall
After losing to North Hagerstown, 67-61, on the road, Jefferson posted a 60-57 win over Washington to gain a split in the two games the county schools played this season.
Jefferson had a 12-3 lead after the first quarter and had improved its advantage to 32-16 by halftime.
But the fourth quarter belonged to Washington as the Patriots outscored the Cougars, 28-15, in that period.
The earlier double-figure lead the Cougars had carved out saved them.
Both Michael Bratton and Marcus Roper scored 11 points for Jefferson.
After edging Washington, the Cougars lost at Musselman, 61-47, and at Spring Mills, 71-61, to leave their overall record at 6-13.
Washington was at 5-12 overall before losing the three-point game at Jefferson and then falling in successive games to Hedgesville (44-35) and Martinsburg (87-37). The Patriots dipped to 5-15 overall with the upcoming Class AAA Sectional tournament on the horizon.
