With a wave of underclassmen paving the way, Jefferson’s girl’s track and field team swept away the other contenders in the Eastern Panhandle Athletic Conference championship meet.

Jefferson’s meet-winning point total was 170 and topped second-place Musselman (132), Washington (81) as well as trailers Martinsburg, Hedgesville and Spring Mills.

Michaela Ashford gave Jefferson wins in both the long jump and the 200-meter dash. Grace Valentine won the 800 distance run and Jordan Phillips was the winner of the 300 low hurdles event.

Three wins in relay events boosted Jefferson’s point total considerably. Those victories came in the 4×100 (Jillian Andrews, Michaela Ashford, Aisha Grant and Kaiella Smith), the 4×200 (Dayja Grady, Aisha Grant, Bailey Phillips and Kaiella Smith) and the 4×800 (Morgan May, Bailey Phillips, Jordan Phillips and Grace Valentine).

Giving Jefferson eight points each for their second-place finishes were Aisha Grant (100 meters), Michaela Ashford (400 meters), Morgan May (1600 meters), Jillian Andrews (300 hurdles), Lilly Simmons (pole vault) and the shuttle hurdles relay team.

Third-place finishes good for six team points came from Bailey Phillips (400 meters), Madison Adams (3200 meters), Dayja Grady (110 high hurdles), Amanda Biebel (discus) and Jillian Andrews (long jump).

Washington High had individual event winners in Roxanne McFarlin (both the 100 meters and the 400 meters) and Kristin Williams (shot put).
