Whitehair, Pratt individual leaders in two meets

Jefferson visited Preston County for the annual Knight Night Relays to begin its cross country seasons.

The Jefferson boys finished third behind Morgantown and University in a large meet where the Cougars entered four teams.

Nick Whitehair recorded the best time of the many Jefferson runners who were entered.

The Cougars then hosted the annual Cougar Invitational and finished first in the six-team event.

Whitehair (17:43), Mason Young (17:49) and Asher Personett (17:59) gave Jefferson a 1-2-3 finish in the race. Colin Hayes was seventh overall and Delmar Hagedorn was ninth.

Jefferson edged runner-up Musselman by seven points, 49-56. Springs Mills was third, followed in order by Washington, Hedgesville and Martinsburg.

The Jefferson girls finished sixth in the Knight Night Relays, trailing meet-winning University A, Morgantown, University B, Preston County and Phillip Barbour.

Jefferson’s best time was recorded by Vanessa Pratt.

In the Cougar Invitational, Jefferson defeated Spring Mills and Hedgesville.

Hedgesville’s Jessie Hogbin won the race with Spring Mills’ Blake Hull finishing second.

Jefferson runners finished third-through-seventh to give the team a score of 25. Spring Mills had 54 and Hedgesville a distant 94.

Pratt was third overall behind Hogbin and Hull with her time of 21:17. Morgan May was fourth, Grace Valentine fifth, Jordan Phillips sixth and Genevieve Sturrock seventh for the Cougars.
