After going 14-4-1 during the regular season, the Jefferson High boys soccer team defeated Washington and Hedgesville in the postseason to reach the state tournament semifinals in Beckley against unbeaten George Washington.

The Cougars had split regular season games against Washington before beating the Patriots, 3-2, in the Sectional Tournament to advance on to the Regional. Jefferson then posted a 3-0, shutout win over Hedgesville in the Regional finals to earn another berth in the four-school state tournament, annually hosted by Beckley.

The other state tournament semifinal game features University High of Morgantown with its 18-3-2 record facing Parkersburg’s Big Reds, author of a 16-3-3 record entering the state semifinals.

Jefferson allowed only 23 goals this season and has moved its record to 16-4-1 before seeing the Patriots of George Washington.

George Washington brings an 18-0-1 record into Beckley and is the state’s lone remaining unbeaten team.

Both the Jefferson vs. George Washington game and the University vs. Parkersburg game are scheduled for today (Friday, Nov. 4).

Should the Cougars defeat George Washington, they will be in Saturday’s state championship game against the survivor of the other semifinal matchup. The championship game will also be played in Beckley.
