SHENANDOAH JUNCTION — After smoothly downing North Hagerstown the previous week, Jefferson returned home to Shenandoah Junction last Friday and shut down South Hagerstown, 64-0, to move its unblemished record to 6-0 and leave the Rebels with a 2-3 overall record.
Jefferson outscored the two Hagerstown city public schools, 123-13, in its two matches against the Hubs and Rebels.
James Wood High School, of Winchester, Va., brings its once-beaten record to Shenandoah Junction tonight at 7 p.m. The Colonels own wins over Sherando, Pulaski County, Brentsville, and North Hagerstown and have a loss against Kettle Run in achieving a 4-1 record to date. The Colonels defeated North Hagerstown, 52-0, last week in Winchester.
In winning their sixth straight verdict to begin the 2021 season, Jefferson had on display plenty of offensive playmakers. And defensive stoppers.
Quarterback Sammy Roberts threw three TD passes (26 yards to Keyshawn Robinson, 27 yards to Isaiah Fritts and 29 yards to Caysen Lanza). Robinson boosted his touchdown total to three when he added a 50-yard run and a 57-yard punt return score.

Running back Evan Tewell scored on runs of 41 yards and 18 yards. Christian Blowe had a seven-yard TD run. Oren Humphreys booted a 39-yard field goal.
Jefferson already had a 21-0 lead after only one quarter and had upped its shutout lead to 41-0 by halftime.
Another three TDs in the third period moved the lead to 61-0 going into the fourth quarter. Humphreys’ field goal provided the only points of the last period.
Jefferson pressured the Rebel offense for most of the weather-comfortable night. South High runners at times had to weave through would-be tacklers in its own backfield just to get back to the line of scrimmage.
Rebel passers faced defenders/linemen on all sides on many plays.

Jefferson holds a Top Three rating in the latest WVSSAC poll of Class AAA schools and would host at least two playoff games should it win in a possible first-round game and come back in the quarterfinal round and come back home to play again.
Huntington, Martinsburg, University, Bridgeport and Princeton also still remain unbeaten in the big school ranks. Huntington holds the WVSSAC poll lead in the big-school ratings.
Following this week’s game versus James Wood, the Cougars will have an open date on October 15 and then return to their 10-game schedule against Martinsburg in Martinsburg on Oct. 22.
