SHENANDOAH JUNCTION — Dylan Harich threw for scores on Jefferson High School’s last four touchdowns and the opportunistic Cougars capitalized on a never-ending sequence of North Hagerstown High School mistakes in last Friday’s 42-6 win that boosted Jefferson’s record to 3-2. The lop-sided win kept Jefferson pointed in the right direction where the West Virginia state playoffs are concerned and places them in the Class AAA’s top 16 teams that will earn postseason berths.
Six times the Cougars began offensive drives in North Hagerstown territory. And, six times, the Cougars scored TDs.
Jefferson certainly did not need any help from the troubled Hubs and their long list of bad snaps, fumbles and various misadventures but they took full advantage of them anyhow.
North Hagerstown mistakes were parlayed into a pair of scores within 3:24 of time in the breakout second quarter where Jefferson tacked on 21 points after grabbing a 7-0 lead after one quarter.
Isaiah Fritts weaved through the Hub defense on a 20-yard run that opened the scoring gates for the Cougars. In quick order, Jefferson built its lead to 28-0 on a seven-yard running play and TD passes from Harich to Fritts and Keyshawn Robinson.

North Hagerstown had lost possession on a botched quarterback handoff and were cramped by bad snaps on consecutive plays that forced a punt from the much-troubled Hubs.
The Hubs salved some of their self-inflicted wounds just before halftime when they returned a kickoff to Jefferson’s 35 and then avoided a shutout with a TD pass with just 18 seconds remained in the second period.
More Hub turnovers greeted the early part of the second half. There was another lost fumble and an intercepted pass.
Jefferson had possession at the Hub 44, after the Cougars stole a pass interception.
Eventually, Harich found Oren Humphreys on a 51-yard pass/run score that moved Jefferson’s already promising lead to 35-6.

The North Hagerstown misplays continued.
Poor snaps to the quarterback and more fumbles (that the Hubs did recover) sent the harassed visitors back to punt from their own end zone.
After the Hubs executed a successful punt, Jefferson set up on the North Hagerstown 31 with just under six minutes to play.
Jefferson’s final points came on Harich’s fourth TD pass of the friendly night.
Harich and company finished with 238 yards passing and those four scores.

In addition to smothering the Hubs and their sometimes stumbling offense, the Cougars severely limited North to just 99 passing yards, while discouraging leading rusher, Zach Moore, who finished with 46 yards on 22 carries.
The Hubs are now 2-2 overall and Jefferson sprinted forward to 3-2 overall with games remaining against South Hagerstown, James Wood, Martinsburg, Hedgesville and county opponent Washington.
The Cougars and their two-game win streak visit the South Hagerstown Rebels tonight at 7 p.m. at School Stadium.
