SHENANDOAH JUNCTION — Playoffs. Jefferson High School claimed the 10th seed in the 16-team Class AAA playoff field after beating Washington, 41-17, at home last week.

The Cougars completed a 7-3 season in bouncing their county rival in the regular season finale for both schools. Washington finished the 2022 season with a 2-8 record.

Showing 333 yards of total offense and no turnovers in its last tuneup before hitting the long road to Spring Valley for the first-round playoff game, the Cougars had quarterback Dylan Harich throw for 198 yards, making TD passes to Isaiah Fritts (15 yards) and Spencer Powell (six yards). Keyshawn Robinson scored on a long kickoff return where he threaded his way to a sideline and out ran the defense to score.

Harich scored on a wide ranging 10-yard run where he took a step to his left and eventually sprinted right to get into the front corner of the end zone on his right side.

Tay’Shaun Roper had a 59-yard TD run where he swept right and then ran along the sideline for about the final 38 yards. Evan Tewell joined the Jefferson scoring parade with an 11-yard romp through the middle.

In Spring Valley, the Cougars will see an opponent that downed St. Albans, 50-7 in its last game. The Huntington-based school also had an 8-2 overall record this year.

Spring Valley is the No. 7 seed and qualified for a home game in the first week of the playoffs.

The Class AAA field is led by No. 1 seed Parkersburg South, Huntington, Martinsburg and Hurricane.

Seeds No. 5 through No. 10 are George Washington, Bridgeport, Spring Valley, Musselman, Wheeling Park and Jefferson.
