SHENANDOAH JUNCTION — With its 6-2 overall record on its playoff-bound banner, Jefferson High School is back at home this week to play Clarksburg High School (Md.), a team with a 3-5 overall record.

The Cougars used a variety of ways to score touchdowns last week in defeating visiting Musselman High School, 33-14.

Rodrigo Delgado had the game’s final score, when he ran 10 yards through the middle of the Applemen defense. He also scored with a lengthy interception return, giving him a two-touchdown night.

Tay’Shaun Roper bolted past the Musselman defense on a 65-yard run in front of his bench along the homeside sidelines. Roper also scored on an 80-yard pass/run reception with a Dylan Harich pass.

The fifth Jefferson TD came on a 33-yard run by Harich.

Jefferson amassed 295 yards of total offense in winning its third straight game. There was only one turnover lost.

Harich threw only nine times and completed five of them for 117 yards.

Roper rushed five times for 99 yards. Delgado had six carries for 59 yards and Harrich’s 10 carries netted him 21 yards.

Roper’s two receptions went for a total of 105 yards. including his long scoring romp that carried him through the Applemen linebackers and secondary.

In visiting Clarksburg, the Cougars will see a team from western Montgomery County that got a win over Poolesville last week.

If the Cougars can achieve wins in their final two games, they could conceivably earn a first-round playoff game at home in Shenandoah Junction. Their last regular season game comes against county rival Washington next week.

The Class AAA playoffs feature 16 teams with eight first-round games coming on Nov. 10-11. The top eight seeded teams have first-round games at home. Jefferson reached the state playoffs in both 2021 and 2022.
