SHENANDOAH JUNCTION — Despite the often gnarly weather, both of Jefferson High School’s track and field teams gave early-season indications that they will be after more state honors come May at the State Meet in Charleston.
Both the Cougar boys and girls team took the team honors at the recent Paul Arbogast Invitational meet held at Spring Mills High School.
The Jefferson boys placed first in several sprint relay events. After winning both the 4×100 and 4×200 relays, the Cougars were second in the 4×400 relay.
Keyshawn Robinson won the 100 meters and Caleb Shelton was second. Shelton also finished first in the 200-meter sprint.
Also getting event wins for the Cougars were Keith Hessler in the long jump and Conner Myers in the 1,600-meter run.

Myers was also one of a number of Cougars finishing second (in the 800 meters) in their specialties.
Travis Jenkins was second in the 3,200 meters, Azmani Jackson came in second in the 400 meters and Shawn Swartz gave Jefferson second-place points in the 1,600-meter run. Finishing third in an event was Agustin Hall (3,200 meters) and both Jamal Mouchivedi (110-meter hurdles and high jump) and Nolan Meehleib (discus) earned a fourth place.
Jefferson’s girls dominated most of the relays — recording wins in the 4×100, 4×200, 4×400 and 4×800.
Gaining first places in individual events were Hannah Phillips (1,600 meters), Imani Wood (200 meters), Jasmine Matthews (both the discus and shot put), Jazmyn Taylor (100 meters) and Samantha Ogden (pole vault).
Sylvia Trevathan was second in the 400-meter sprint while Jazmyn Taylor took third in the long jump and Norah Keenan (3,200 meters), Arian Adkins (300-meter hurdles) and Jayla Kidrick (200 meters) all finished fourth in their events.
The Class AAA Regional Meet for both boys and girls is scheduled for the early afternoon on May 15 at Spring Mills High School in north Berkeley County. Both Jefferson teams won the Regional championships in 2023 and will earn the rest of the state’s attention when they try for repeats in mid-May.
