Cougars defeat Musselman, Patriots — start season with eight wins

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION — Jefferson High School already owns wins over Musselman High School and Washington High School, and has begun the season with an 8-0 record. Earlier games this week had the Cougars playing on the road at Hedgesville High School on Tuesday and at Spring Mills High School on Thursday.

Weather permitting, they are scheduled to face Broadfording Christian Academy (Hagerstown) tomorrow, in a 1 p.m. doubleheader against the private school.

Some very early hitting statistics find sophomore Teagan Moulton batting .600, Braedon Oviedo batting .500 and sophomore Serf Guerra at .474.

Oviedo has scored 10 runs, Sam Hefner seven runs and Brady Roberts seven runs.

Moulton, Guerra and Oviedo all have nine hits.

Moulton has driven in 10 runs with Guerra showing eight RBIs and Liam Sager seven RBIs.

Hefner has the most stolen bases, with eight, and is closely followed by Liam Healey, with his seven.

Moulton has a .727 on-base percentage, with Oviedo getting on base .654 percent of the time and Guerra checking in with a .615 on-base percentage.

Jett Gross, who silenced Washington for six innings while striking out 10, has an ERA of 0.00. Liam Sager has also not allowed an earned run and has a similar 0.00 ERA. Alex Danner has posted an ERA of 0.70.

Liam Healey pitched well as a starter, in one of the wins over Moorefield High School.

Guerra was on base four times in the seven-run win over Washington. Roberts was on base three times in the win over the Patriots.

Nayan Dominguez has had games where he reached base every time he batted.

Next week, the Cougars will be on the road playing Spring Valley High School on Friday and then facing a Saturday doubleheader against Morgantown High School and Bridgeport High School.

Still ahead are two games against Martinsburg High School, a home game versus Hedgesville, a home game against Musselman and a road game against intra-county rival Washington.
