Lock Haven was kept on its defensive heels from the very outset as the Rams kept control of most of the action in their offensive end.

The opening half saw Shepherd take far more shots and rarely saw Lock Haven manage to menace the Ram goal.

Neither team could break the scoreless deadlock, however.

The second half was much the same in style of play and again had the Rams threatening more often.

Wilt

It wasn’t until Anaya Lozano gave Shepherd a 1-0 lead when she scored after controlling a pass from Annabelle Wunderlich, as the second half showed a similar flow of action as had happened before the intermission.

Lock Haven did not panic or alter its style of defense emphasis, as the last half moved ahead with the Rams still in ownership of time of possession and in continually pressuring the Golden Eagle defense.

The Rams’ lead went to 2-0 about 14 minutes after the only other goal when Josie Beezel made a successful pass to Merritt Delk, whose on-target shot found the top of the net and lifted the Rams a more comfortable margin and allowed more reserves to get playing time.

Some of the game-ending statistics further told the tale of Shepherd’s ability to force much of the game’s flow onto Lock Haven’s side of the field.

The Rams had a glaring 30-5 advantage in shots and a 12-3 dominance in shots on goal.

Wunderlich

Lock Haven managed just two corner kicks, while Shepherd had seven corner kicks.

Lock Haven had won its season opener, so its record was evened at 1-1.

Shepherd goalkeeper Hannah Wilt was credited with three saves.

Shepherd returned to further conference play this past Wednesday when it hosted Shippensburg.

Following the mid-week game against Red Raiders, the Rams will be on the road for conference tests against both East Stroudsburg and Kutztown before returning to Shepherdstown to face conference rival Mansfield on Sept. 20 at 3:30 p.m.
