SHEPHERDSTOWN — With a confidence-building 2-0 road win over previously unbeaten Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, the Shepherd University women’s soccer team pushed toward the top of the East Division of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference standings. Later in the week, the Rams stopped visiting Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, 18-0, in a conference game more about Mansfield than Shepherd.
The Rams, who next play at Bloomsburg tomorrow at 6 p.m., are currently 3-0-2 The next home game is on Oct. 1 against Millersville at 1 p.m.
When the Rams traveled to Kutztown, they faced a team that was unbeaten at 5-0 and was ranked No.17 in the country.
With a 1-0 halftime lead provided by Josie Beezel’s goal, the Rams were continually keeping the Golden Bears on their heels and away from any scoring opportunities. Shepherd goalkeeper Hannah Wilt was credited with one save in the game.
Reagan Ackermann’s second half goal provided the Rams with much more security in a game where Shepherd earned more shots, attempted more shots on goal and had more corner kicks.

Buso
There never was a pressurized moment in the unusual victory over visiting Mansfield, a winless conference team. Shepherd bolted to an early lead, gave everybody copious playing time and never allowed the Mountaineers any shots at its goal.
Shepherd’s stellar women’s volleyball team moved its record to 9-2 overall by winning three matches and losing just once last week in a two-day tournament staged at Indiana, Pa.
The Rams posted a 3-0 win over Elizabeth City State and then added wins over Pitt-Johnstown and Charleston (WV). The Rams win over Pitt-Johnstown was 3-0 and the highly competitive win over Charleston came by game scores of 25-22, 25-23 and 25-23. Charleston had a 25-23 win the Game 3 of the match.
Sophia Ryan and Ada McCoy had the team’s most kills against both Elizabeth City and Pitt-Johnstown. Madigan Faircloth and Macy Buso had the most digs and assists.
Amya Davis and McCoy led in kills in the tightly-contested win over Charleston. Against conference rival Indiana, it was Rylee Lenz having the most kills.
