SHEPHERDSTOWN — In the second of its weekend volleyball matches last week, Shepherd University edged homestanding Pennsylvania Western University, Edinboro, three games to two, and showed an overall record of 10-3 before finally coming home for the first time in the 2025 season.

The Rams eventually defeated Edinboro in a back-and-forth match when it won a deciding game five by a 16-14 count.

Edinboro opened the evening by taking a 25-21 game one win. Then it was Shepherd returning the favor in the next two games, winning game two by a count of 25-19 and then repeating that same score in game three.

The Fighting Scots had enough fight left to take a decisive 25-11 verdict in game four.

With both teams having posted wins in two games, the match’s outcome hinged on a decisive game five.

Shepherd prevailed, posting a 16-14 decision to win the match and extend its overall record to 10-3.

Sophia Ryan, Emily Ryder and Amya Davis had the most kills. Ada McCoy had 10 kills, 10 digs and three blocks while Rylee Lenz had five kills and four blocks. Madison Faircloth was credited with 23 digs and three service aces. Macy Buso had 44 assists and seven digs.

Shepherd’s next home matches are slated for Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. against Kutztown and then Oct. 11 against East Stroudsburg at 4 p.m.

In the loss to Gannon, the Rams were led in kills by Davis, McCoy and Ryan, while Lenz and Ryan had the most blocks, Faircloth the most digs and Buso the most assists.

The Shepherd women’s soccer team played to a 2-2 tie against one of the PSAC’s best teams — Bloomsburg, now 5-1-2.

Shepherd actually led, 2-1, until the 86:23 mark when Bloomsburg notched an unassisted goal to force a stalemate that could not be resolved in the final minutes of play.

The Rams appeared to have the advantage if statistics can be believed.

Shepherd was credited with 23 shots and Bloomsburg only seven. In “shots on goal,” it was Shepherd with a 10-2 advantage and in “corner kicks” it was Shepherd, with another 10-2 advantage.

However, the final score will be recoded as a 2-2 tie, leaving the Rams with a 3-0-3 overall record.

Shepherd’s Reagan Ackermann was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference’s East Division Athlete of the Week for the next-to-last week in September.
