SHEPHERDSTOWN — Again this fall season, two of the women’s teams have had the most success in the sports offered by Shepherd University.

The regular season has been completed for the women’s soccer team and the Rams, who reached all the way into December last season before falling in the numbing cold in New Hampshire, will bring an 8-1-6 overall record into this week’s Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tournament.

Shepherd will be the defending conference champion after its 2024 success.

Finishing third in the league’s East Division sent the Rams to Gannon on Tuesday. Gannon, with its flashy 15-1-2 overall record finished second in the West Division.

Should Shepherd have defeated the Golden Knights, it would have moved into today’s semifinal round. The tournament finals will be played on Nov. 16.

The regular season finale saw the Rams defeat Millersville, 2-1, at Millersville. Millersville was 7-6-3 with the loss.

In that regular season finale, both Shepherd goals came in the first half and helped the Rams withstand a first-half goal by the Marauders at the 35:53 mark of the opening half.

Neither team scored in the second half.

Shepherd’s goals were provided by Lydia Gable and Taylor Schuck, with Josie Beezel and Erica Moore receiving credit on the two goals.

Shepherd’s overall competence was attested by its 9-2 advantage in shots, 5-2 advantage in shots on goal and 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

If the Rams defeated Gannon, they advanced to today’s semifinal round. Should they win in the semis, they would enter the conference finals on Nov. 16.

The complete regular season statistics show that Beezel was second in the league in assists with nine and Merritt Delk was eighth with seven assists. In points scored Delk finished with 23 (seventh place in the PSAC) and Beezel had 19 points (eighth in the PSAC).

Shepherd’s women’s volleyball team improved its stellar record to 19-7 with a 3-1 win over Lock Haven. The scores of the games were 25-13, 25-19, 21-25 and 25-23.

Also last week, the Rams defeated Bloomsburg 3-0. Those game scores were 25-23, 25-15 and 25-19.

The volleyball regular season continues this week with Shepherd playing at Kutztown tonight and then at East Stroudsburg tomorrow, Nov. 15.

Shepherd is currently in third place in the East Division, behind Shippensburg’s 12-0 record and the 11-1 record East Stroudsburg. Shepherd’s record in conference division play is 8-4.

In league statistics, Shepherd’s Sophia Ryan is the league leader in hitting percentage with a .378 success rate. Ada McCoy is 12th in kills with 3.04 per game. In assists, Macy Buso is sixth with 9.15 per game. Ryan is third in blocks with 1.19 per game and Rylee Lenz is 10th with 0.90 per game.
