Cross named to Sewanee Hall of Fame
Ian Rutherford Cross, son of Ann M. Cross and the late Michael J. Cross, formerly of Shepherdstown, has been asked to be part of the Sewanee Athletics Hall of Fame.
Cross attended the Powhatan School in Boyce, Virginia, The Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania and graduated from The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. He received his Masters in history from Durham University in England.
A three-time All Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference selection in track and cross country, Cross set the SCAC record time in the 1500m and 5000m and was the 1996 SCAC 1500m and 5000m champion. Cross was named the 1996 SCAC Male Track Athlete of the Year and earned the 1995SCAC Cross Country Runner of the Year honor.
Along with Cross, five other individuals and one team were inducted into the Sewanee Hall of Fame.
Cross currently resides in Ft. Myers, Florida with his wife, Amanda and two children, Caroline and Andrew. He serves as Department Head of Social Sciences at the Canterbury School in Ft. Myers.
