Five Rams gain all-conference honors
Five members of the Shepherd University baseball team have been named to the 2013 WVIAC All-Conference Team. Junior pitcher Paul Hvozdovic (Herndon, VA/Herndon), junior outfielder Ryan Messina (St. James, NY/Smithtown East), junior outfielder Michael Lott (Woodbridge, VA/Woodbridge) and freshman reliever Ryan Pansch (Charles Town, WV/Washington) all earned first team honors. Senior pitcher Davis Hall (Reston, VA/Herndon) gained second team honors.
Hvozdovic gained first team honors for the second consecutive year. He has a 9-5 overall mark with a 3.90 ERA. He has a team-best 75 strikeouts and just 15 walks in 85.1 innings. Hvozdovic has five complete games and a pair of shutouts on the year.
Messina is among the nation’s leaders with a .447 batting average. He had 50 runs batted in and 41 runs scored. Messina also has 12 doubles, a triple, and 12 home runs on the year. He has a .511 on-base percentage and a .761 slugging percentage. Messina gained NCBWA National Hitter of the Week honors for April 17.
Lott has a .411 batting average. He has scored 49 runs and driven in 32. Lott also has 17 doubles, a triple and three home runs. He set a new Shepherd single season record with 26 stolen bases this season.
Pansch has a 4-3 record with a pair of saves and a team-best 3.19 ERA in 18 appearances. He has 59 strikeouts and only 12 walks in 48 innings.
Hall has a 7-2 mark with a 4.00 ERA. He has 51 strikeouts in 69.2 innings in 14 appearances.
