Jones, Robinson gain All-American honors
Senior defensive end Howard Jones (Woodbridge, VA/Freedom) and senior cornerback Keon Robinson (Fairfax Station, VA/Lake Braddock) of the Shepherd University football team have been named to the 2013 Beyond Sports College Network (BSN) D2 Preseason All-American Team.
Jones recorded 34 tackles (28 solo) in 2012. He led the team with 15.5 tackles-for-loss and nine sacks. He also added a forced fumble.
Robinson recorded 52 tackles on the year with 40 solo stops. He had four interceptions (one touchdown), 10 pass breakups, a pair of fumble recoveries, and a blocked kick. Robinson added 14 kickoff returns for a 20.6 average (one touchdown) and 17 punt returns for a 10.9 average (one touchdown).
Jones and Robinson, both third team selections, helped spearhead a Shepherd defense that led NCAA II in rushing defense (52.64), while ranking eighth in tackles for loss (8.73) and eighth in scoring defense (16.64).
The Rams open the 2013 season when they host Shippensburg for Ram Gridiron Club Day on September 7 at Ram Stadium at noon.
