Shepherd volleyball names captains

Shepherd University head volleyball coach Sarah Smith recently announced the team captains for the 2013 season. Seniors Meg Kenny (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass), Melani Lewis (Bay Shore, N.Y./Brentwood) and Kayla Walker (Palmyra, Va./Fluvanna County) will serve as captains this season.

Kenny, a second team All-WVIAC selection last season, recorded 208 kills, 85 blocks (12 solo), 54 digs, 21 aces, and four assists in 2012. She led the team in blocks and was second in kills and aces (tied).

Lewis, a first team All-WVIAC choice in 2012, recorded 208 kills, 128 digs, 44 blocks (one solo), 13 aces, and 11 assists last season. She was second on the team in kills per game (2.18) and third in kills (198).

Walker recorded 138 kills, 128 digs, 22 blocks (two solo), 21 aces, and four assists in 2012. She was tied for second on the team in aces, while ranking fourth in kills per game (1.64) and kills (138).

The Rams will open the 2013 campaign on Sept. 6 when they host Barry at 10 a.m. and Lock Haven at 8 p.m. in first day action of the Hampton Inn Ram Rumble.
