Rams move to sixth in baseball poll
With the best baseball record in the Atlantic Region, Shepherd has been ranked sixth this week against the other teams in the Mountain East, Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
Shepherd’s 22-7 overall record has been achieved with 13 straight wins, all coming against Mountain East Conference opponents.
The Rams completed doubleheader sweeps against Glenville State on Saturday and Sunday of last weekend.
Shepherd has a 20-4 conference record, good for first place in the 12-school conference, going into this weekend’s pair of doubleheaders at Fairfax Field against Notre Dame of Ohio.
Ranked ahead of the Rams in the Atlantic Region poll of baseball writers are Shippensburg (21-8), Seton Hill (24-9), Millersville (21-10), East Stroudsburg (20-11) and Mercyhurst (18-8).
Ranked 7-through-10 and behind Shepherd in the latest poll are Concord (21-11), Slippery Rock (20-10), Winston-Salem State (26-13) and Kutztown (17-10).
Paul Hvozdovic (6-0), Jamie Driver (5-1) and Austin Hale (5-1) have been Shepherd’s most successful pitchers after the first 29 games of the weather-menaced season. Michael Lott, Spencer Wolfe and Matt Wilson are all batting over .400 for the Rams, who haven’t lost since splitting a mid-March doubleheader with Concord.
