Rams sweep Ohio teams
Shepherd markedly improved its chances of posting a winning season when it swept a pair of men’s basketball games in Ohio last weekend.
The Rams had a 13-11 overall record after defeating Notre Dame, 108-94, and Urbana, 86-72, on the road.
Skyler Roman totaled 53 points in the pair of wins. Steffen Davis scored 50 points over the weekend and Ryan McTavish accounted for another 34 points. Starters Naim Muhammad (21 total points and 19 total assists) and A.J. Carr (26 total points and 29 total rebounds) were also important factors in the two-game sweep.
Shepherd made 54 percent of its field goal tries in beating Notre Dame and 51.7 percent of its field goal attempts in stopping Urbana.
Tyree Gaiter helped Notre Dame to a 59-point second half with his 35 points.
The Rams were 8-10 in Mountain East Conference play.
Shepherd’s women fell to Notre Dame, 92-69, and lost to Urbana, 97-92, in their two games in Ohio.
Notre Dame outscored the Rams, 28-14, in the third quarter. Lauren Langenderfer had 25 points for the winning Falcons.
Shepherd guard Morgan Arden scored a combined 52 points in the losses, while Liz Myers was the leading rebounder and Hailey Brown scored a career high 13 points against Urbana and reserve Elizabeth Moorman had 11 points against Notre Dame.
Shepherd had a 5-19 overall record and was 4-14 in Mountain East games.
Both Shepherd teams host West Virginia State on Saturday with the women playing at 2 p.m. and the men at 4 p.m.
