Glenville bounces Rams out of tournament
Glenville had Sedric Nady. And he had 41 points . . . enough scoring to lead the Pioneers past Shepherd, 89-80, in a Mountain East Conference first-round tournament game played at the Butcher Center on Tuesday night.
Shepherd’s season ended with three consecutive losses and a 15-14 overall record. The upstart Pioneers jumped their overall record to 11-18 and moved along to Friday’s quarterfinal round in Charleston where they will face top-seeded West Liberty.
Even though it had five players score in double figures, Shepherd couldn’t overcome the high-scoring performance by Nady. Brett Morris also scored 18 points for the Pioneers, a team the Rams had beaten by 30 points at the Butcher Center in late January.
Steffen Davis paced the Shepherd offense with 22 points, Ryan McTavish closed his two-year Shepherd career with a 15 point showing, Winston Burgess and Naim Muhammad both had 13 points and A.J. Carr added another 11.
Glenville actually trailed at halftime, but when Nady began an unending scoring tour de force through the second half, managed 50 points in that last half.
The Pioneers had only four turnovers in all.
Earlier in the day, McTavish was named to the second-team All Conference squad after averaging 16 points a game during the regular season.
