Shepherd honors radio broadcaster

By Staff | Mar 4, 2016

Area radio broadcaster Tom Tucker, a graduate of Shepherdstown High School, was given a plaque for his many years of doing Shepherd football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball games on TalkRadio WRNR-AM 740.

Tucker retired in 2015 and even broadcast several Shepherd women’s basketball games this season as the play-by-play announcer.

At Saturday’s basketball doubleheader at the Butcher Center between the Rams and Fairmont, Tucker was presented a plaque by Shepherd athletic administrators B.J. Pomroy and Aaron Ryan.

Tucker had broadcast Shepherd games for more than 20 years.

He reported seeing his first Shepherd game when he was 11 years old.

Tucker broadcast most of Shepherd’s home women’s basketball games from the 2011-12 season through the 2014-15 season.

Matt Miller, another TalkRadio WRNR-AM sports broadcaster, has done the Rams football games — both home and away — for more than a decade.

In 2006, Tucker was named the state of West Virginia’s top talk show host as TalkRadio WRNR-AM 740’s morning man.
