By Staff | Jul 7, 2017

MORGANTOWN – The well-known teams with respected reputations had already been revealed.

West Virginia is going to play 13 non-conference basketball games, including three in a late-November tournament in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

The field in the Thanksgiving tournament has Nebraska, Missouri, St. John’s, Oregon State, Long Beach State, Central Florida and Marist. No pairings for that event have been announced.

Kentucky is the shiniest name on the non-conference list. The Wildcats visit Morgantown on Jan. 27 in the Big 12/Southeastern Conference Challenge. Virginia is the other big-name program coming to Morgantown. West Virginia played at Virginia last season. The Cavaliers are in Morgantown on Dec. 5.

The Mountaineers open the 2017-18 season on Nov. 10 with a game against Texas A&M in Germany. There is also a true road game against Pittsburgh on Dec. 9.

The other non-conference games are all at home, beginning on Nov. 15 against American U. of the Patriot Conference. Following American on the schedule are Morgan State (Baltimore) on Nov. 18, Long Beach State on Nov. 20, New Jersey Institute of Technology on Nov. 30, Coppin State (Baltimore) on Dec. 20 and Fordham (New York City) on Dec. 23.

West Virginia and Marshall will not be playing each other in the coming season. And there will be no games scheduled in Charleston, where two games were held in the 2016-17 season.

Season tickets are already on sale. The season has eight non-conference home games as well as the nine games played against Big 12 Conference rivals.
