Carolyn Boswell Weaver

Carolyn Boswell Weaver, 87, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 18, 2025, at UPMC-Western Maryland.

A native of Shepherds-town, WV, Mrs. Weaver was born on May 8, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Ashton K. and Willa (South) Boswell Muncey. She was preceded in death by an older sister, Elaine Turnball.

She grew up in Shepherdstown, where she attended public schools and three years of high school. She then graduated from the high school department of Marion College. She went on to obtain degrees from Marjorie Webster Junior College and Shepherd College.

Her love was teaching preschool children, and she taught at the Humpty Dumpty School in Cumberland for 20 years. She was a member of the Junior Women’s Civic Club, the Cumberland Garden Club, the Shade Tree Commission, and the Let’s Beautify Cumberland Commission. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cumberland.

She was a gregarious person with a wide circle of friends and was an enthusiastic bridge player, playing regularly with the same group for 43 years.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Joseph H. Weaver; two children, Julie Weaver Murray, of Salisbury, MD, and Joseph L. “Jay” Weaver, of Carnegie, PA; two grandchildren, Andrew Murray (Sarah) and Jonathan Murray (Amber), both of Berlin, MD; and six great-grandchildren, Landon, Anna, Brooklyn, June, Indah, and Ellis Murray.

Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the dedicated caregivers for their kindness, support and care shown to Carolyn over the past two years.

In accordance with her wishes, Mrs. Weaver will be cremated. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Monday, July 28, 2025 from 11am to 1pm.

A memorial service will immediately follow at 1pm with Pastor Seth Wharton officiating.
