Shepherdstown gearing up for Easter holiday season

SHEPHERDSTOWN — Easter will be on the 31st of this month, and in honor of that, a number of family-friendly events have been planned for local residents to take advantage of.
This Saturday morning, from 10 a.m. to noon, will be the first of the events — the annual Easter Eggstravaganza at Sam Michaels Park.
“Join the Easter Bunny at Sam Michaels Park for an egg huntin’ good time! Tons of eggs will be scattered throughout the festival field, just waiting to be found,” said a news release by the Jefferson County Parks and Recreation Commission, which is organizing the event. “The Easter Bunny will be available for a quick visit with the kids and photo opportunities, so parents, be sure to bring your camera!”
Gates will open at 10 a.m., with the egg hunt promptly beginning at 10:30 a.m. As with most public egg hunts like this one, participants will need to bring their own baskets for the hunt. Tickets to the event may still be available for purchase on the Jefferson County Parks & Recreation Commission website, at https://jeffersoncountywv.myrec.com/info/activities/program_details.aspx?ProgramID=29845#0_144017.
Then, on the Saturday of Easter weekend, Shepherdstown’s Easter events will kick off early in the morning at the Blue Moon Cafe. From 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., the Shepherdstown Centennial Lions Club will be holding its annual Breakfast With the Easter Bunny. Tickets may be purchased at the door, which children under three eating for free, children ages 4-12 eating for $5 and those 13-and-older eating for $10.
“Come join us at the Blue Moon Cafe for a photo-op and pancake breakfast! Attendees should remember to bring a cellphone to take pictures of children with the Easter Bunny,” wrote Shepherdstown Centennial Lions Club member Effie Kallas. “All proceeds will go to support our local community projects and programs!”
Then at 10 a.m. that same day, a Spring Parade will be held on German Street.
“Let’s welcome spring, in true Shepherdstown fashion . . . a parade!” said the parade’s sponsor, The Station at Shepherdstown, on Facebook. “Each category overall best with be given an Easter basket with local shop and eatery treats, and a special basket will be given to the organization/nonprofit with the most spring spirit!”
Those wishing to participate in the parade and compete to win an Easter gift basket may register at the link on https://www.facebook.com/events/376193475341726/.
Then at 10:30 a.m., those interested in participating in the Shepherdstown Easter Egg Hunt should plan to bring along their baskets and gather together on North King Street, in between the Shepherdstown Police Department and McMurran Hall. The hunt will begin promptly at 10:40 a.m., according to organizer Michelle Kwiatkowski.
“Eggs will be hidden all over the grounds of McMurran Hall, Knutti Hall and in the garden area,” Kwiatkowski said, noting that this will be a free event.
From 10:30 a.m. through 2:30 p.m. at Lilah Restaurant, a Brunch with the Easter Bunny will be held. Photo opportunities will be available for the Easter Bunny. Prizes will be given away, during the event.
The final Easter event of the day, the Shepherdstown Easter Market, will be returning from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. to the War Memorial Building.
“Come to Shepherdstown for the annual Easter Market, with locally made goods from 35 local artisans at the War Memorial Building!” Kwiatkowski, who is also the organizer of this event, said on Facebook.
Among the Easter-themed items for sale at the market, will be chocolate eggs from The Harper’s Ferry Chocolatier, Easter bunny cookies from Heidi’s Sugar Shack Cookies, handpainted eggs from Suzie’s Pysanky Eggs and hand sewn cloth Easter bunnies from Firefly Handmade and Mouse Loves Pig.
