Ida Geneva (Hill) Bullett

Ida Geneva (Hill) Bullett, 84, of Martinsburg, passed away peacefully Monday, August 4, 2025, at her home. Born an only child on October 13, 1940, in New York, NY, she was the daughter of the late Marie Hill Norris and stepfather, Andrew Norris.

Bullett was a member of St. John Baptist Church in Shepherdstown, WV and an active contributor in her community. She attended the Sumner-Ramer Memorial School, under the last graduating class of 1959 when racial integration in public schools began to be implemented. After starting a large family with her former husband Sandy W. Bullett, Sr. (deceased), she returned to school and graduated in June of 1968 from James Rumsey Technical Institute receiving both her GED and additional certifications in Automotive Technology. In November 1968, she was one of the first three African American women to be hired at the General Motors Parts Division Co. in Martinsburg. She was employed there as a production line worker until her retirement in 1998 with over 30 years of service.

Bullett was an avid reader and lover of autobiography books. She also enjoyed writing poems, crossword puzzles, family horoscopes and watching her favorite sports, basketball and boxing. In addition to her being a loving mother, grandmother and friend, she also had a beautiful heart, giving back and donating to over 20 different charities and nonprofit organizations annually; from Breast Cancer Organizations to Injured Veterans, to the most recent charity, the Fulton Walker Golf Classic.

She is survived by two sons, James Anthony Hill of Hagerstown, MD, Sandy William Bullett, Jr., Martinsburg, four daughters, June Marie Bullett of Martinsburg, Pamela Elaine Brooks (Harvey), of Stafford, VA, Donia Melissa Sowell (Robert) of Martinsburg, and Tia Monique Bullett of Charlotte, NC, 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, and a host of cousins, in-laws and special friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Vincent Howard Bullett of Miami, FL. and her only cousin, William A. “Billy” Shanton, Sr., Martinsburg.

Funeral services were on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at the Brown Funeral Home, with the public viewing at 10AM to 11AM and services beginning immediately at 11AM, the Rev Robert L. Jackson, Sr. presiding.

Interment will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
