SHEPHERDSTOWN — The Shepherd University Athletic Hall of Fame has added former women’s basketball standout Katie Warehime to its growing list of inductees.
Warehime became a two-year WVIAC standout in 2007, when she transferred to Shepherd from Division I Fairleigh Dickinson in New Jersey.
Shepherd had a 39-21 overall record in her two seasons (.650 winning percentage) after transferring from the east coast-based NCAA Division I school.
She was noted and selected as Shepherd’s Female Athlete of the Year in 2008.
The 6-footer scored 941 points in her two seasons playing for the Rams. In her first season in the WVIAC, Warehime led the Rams to a 24-7 overall record and a conference championship. She was accorded first team all-conference honors in her initial season at Shepherd. Warehime repeated as a first-teamer in her second season with the Rams.
Her two-season point totals of 445 points and 496 points led Shepherd in scoring in both her seasons.
On defense, she paced the Rams with 37 blocked shots in 2009. On offense, Warehime also led the team in field goal percentage in both her seasons in the West Virginia Conference. She converted .515 percent of her field attempts in her first season and .504 percent of her shots in her last campaign.
Shepherd was able to receive a bid to the NCAA Division II East Regional in the 2007-2008 season.
Her best rebounding year saw her average 5.9 boards in the 2008-2009 campaign.
Warehime is one of the few Shepherd players to be chosen as a first-team all-conference player in her only two seasons as a Ram.
Her field goal percentage is the only one in school history where a player converted over 50 percent of their attempts in each of their collegiate seasons.
Warehime goes into the Athletic Hall of Fame this summer with football’s Terry Corbin and lacrosse player Georgia Karr Garten.
The newest threesome of Hall of Famers makes the total number of inductees rise to 173. They will be feted on campus over Hall of Fame weekend in September.
